Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) organized an interactive evening with Alton C. Byers on 1 November 2026 at Hotel Mulberry, Jyatha, Thamel, Kathmandu.
Alton C. Byers is an academic and mountaineer specializing in high-altitude ecosystems, climate change, glacier hazards, and integrated conservation and development programs. He is a Senior Research Associate and faculty member at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, University of Colorado Boulder. He has extensive experience conducting field research in Nepal's remote mountain regions.
The discussion focused on high-altitude environmental research, climate change impacts, glacier-related hazards, landscape conservation, and the challenges facing Himalayan communities. In light of recent climate-induced disasters in Nepal, the interaction provided valuable insights into mountain safety, climate resilience, and the importance of strengthening conservation and adaptation efforts.
The event offered participants an opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives on the changing Himalayan environment and the need for sustainable approaches to mountain conservation and community development.
KEEP extends its sincere gratitude to Alton C. Byers and all participants for making the interaction meaningful and informative.
