Sarshyu Drinking Water Infrastructure Development Project at Naukunda Rural Municipality

Date: March 27, 2025Location: Sarshyu Village, Rasuwa

The Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) has recently completed the Drinking Water Supply Project in Sarshyu village, located in Naukunda Rural Municipality-6, Rasuwa District. For many years, the villagers faced a severe water scarcity problem, walking long distances to fetch water. This was a major challenge, especially for women and children, who would spend hours each day just collecting water for basic household needs.

With the successful completion of this essential project, over 560 local users from 140 households are now benefiting from reliable and easy access to clean water. The project also extends its benefits to Shree Gosinkunda Secondary School, where 408 students now have access to safe drinking water. The local health post has similarly gained from the supply, ensuring better hygiene and health practices in the community.

A key feature of the project is the installation of 70 water taps, with each tap serving two households. This improvement has brought about a significant change in the villagers’ daily lives. Having a water tap right in front of their homes has made it much easier for residents to meet their water needs, from washing clothes and cleaning their surroundings to providing water for toilets, animals, and vegetable gardens. This convenience has brought a lot of relief to the villagers, as they no longer need to make long, tiring walks to fetch water.

This transformative project was made possible thanks to the generous support of A Drop of Life-HK. Their contribution enabled KEEP to implement this life-changing water supply system in such a remote area. KEEP has a long history of supporting Nepal’s rural communities and continues to run similar programs that improve the quality of life for people in underserved regions. This project is another example of how small interventions can have a large and lasting impact on the well-being of vulnerable populations.

KEEP remains committed to assisting remote communities and invites others to join in this noble cause to help Nepalese people in need through humanitarian work.
