KEEP, in collaboration with the Sustainable Tourism Project (STP), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), and UNDP, successfully conducted a four-day’s workshop on Tourism Awareness and Minimal Impact Travel (MIT) from 21st–24th December 2025.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness on Sustainable Tourism practices that while mountain tourism is a vital pillar of Nepal’s economy, it also poses significant environmental and social challenges. These include poor waste management, cultural imbalance, and biodiversity loss often driven by a lack of awareness. The program emphasized that conserving nature and protecting Nepal’s mountains is a collective responsibility, as they are the country’s most important tourism assets and the foundation of sustainable development.

Each day of the workshop was designed for a specific stakeholder group to ensure targeted learning and meaningful engagement:
- 21 December 2025: Trekking companies, tourism-related organizations, and tourism entrepreneurs
Participants: 52 - 22 December 2025: Tourism professionals, including male and female porters and guides
Participants: 80 - 23 December 2025: Women tourism entrepreneurs
Participants: 42 female participants - 24 December 2025: Environmental clubs within the Kathmandu Valley
Participants: 72

KEEP is deeply grateful for the enthusiastic participation and strong commitment shown by all attendees. Participants actively engaged in learning about the negative environmental impacts that are often overlooked and expressed strong motivation to promote sustainable practices in mountain tourism. The workshop successfully strengthened awareness and inspired stakeholders to take positive actions toward reducing environmental impacts and promoting sustainability in Nepal’s mountain tourism sector.
